Namdev, the 13th century saint, devotee of Lord Vithal, laments, complains and scolds Vithala the protector of devotees for failing to assist him in times of his need.

"Aren't you ashamed", asks Namdev to his buddy "Pandurang". He takes the liberty to scold the Lord and demands a reply from his pal. "Why should I be ashamed of saying this? You the protector Narayana has repaid the debt of many devotees, then what happened, why didn't you come to my rescue? Aren't you ashamed?," asks Nama.

A devotee's surrender and devotion to the Lord, who is guardian, master, friend, closest, nearest, dearest, is so intense that the Lord is indebted to the devotee and is obliged to take care of him, to protect him.

You have helped other devotees, Prahlad, Dhruv, and so on. You,however, didn't come to my rescue during my bad times. You are Narayan, a devotees, bodyguard. What happened to you? You didn't live up to your name.

Just as someone who has been through bad times chides his bosom friend, do too, Namdev scolds his best friend for failing to turn up in dire situations.
